HealthMarkets Helps American Red Cross - Chisholm Trail Chapter

HealthMarkets is excited about our new partnership with the American Red Cross - Chisholm Trail Chapter. Most people know the Red Cross for their response to large disasters across the world; however, the American Red Cross helps local people and communities in emergencies every day - whether it's half a million disaster victims, a family who just lost their house to a fire, or one sick child who needs blood. In 2008, the Chisholm Trail Chapter's Disaster Services responded to 553 relief operations, helping 755 families and 2,413 individuals in our local communities.

In 2009, HealthMarkets donated the funds necessary to sponsor the Chisholm Trail Chapter's Canteen Program which provides comfort kits to victims of emergencies. For families devastated by hurricanes, fires and floods, the simplest supplies are a great treasure. These comfort kits include basic personal items such as toothbrush and toothpaste, soap, hand towel, comb and brush, deodorant and even a pair of flip flops in case the victim is without shoes. The Canteen Program also supplies snacks and beverages to service the emergency responders.

The American Red Cross - Chisholm Trail Chapter is a conduit for people to help themselves and their neighbors throughout their seventy-eight county North Texas jurisdiction, the nation and the world. The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and counsels victims of disasters; provides nearly half of the nation's blood supply; teaches lifesaving skills; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a charitable organization — not a government agency — and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its humanitarian mission.
