HealthMarkets is proud to support the Greater Fort Worth Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®. In addition to our corporate sponsorship, 2011 marks the sixth year that HealthMarkets employees will join together as a team to support Susan G. Komen for the Cure®.
Since 1992, The Susan G. Komen for the Cure Greater Fort Worth Affiliate has raised more than $17 million for breast cancer treatment, prevention and research. They have invested nearly $12.5 million in local grants for research, education, screening and treatment to agencies in Tarrant County.
In 2010 alone, $1.5 million in grants went to local nonprofit organizations that provide low‐cost mammograms, medical treatment and breast cancer detection, prevention, education and information. From reaching out and educating about risk factors to early detection of breast to information about treatment and recovery. Komen empowers and engages the community as breast cancer activists and provide local support to families affected by this disease.
The Susan G. Komen for the Cure Greater Fort Worth Affiliate serves Tarrant, Parker, Johnson and Hood counties by providing funding for international research and local life‐saving programs. These programs address education, screening and treatment for women who otherwise could not afford it.
Today, Komen for the Cure is the world's largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures. Thanks to events like the Komen Race for the Cure, this organization has invested nearly $1.9 billion to fulfill their promise, becoming the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world.
