HealthMarkets Giving Guidelines
HealthMarkets is proud of our involvement with the people and communities in which we live and work. We recognize our civic responsibility and take pride in our efforts to support the communities that help us grow. Our corporate giving program is directed toward local agencies and non-profit organizations that provide needed services to those communities. From providing financial contributions to volunteering on personal time, we are committed to making a positive difference.
Eligibility Guidelines
- With few exceptions, our giving is concentrated in three focus areas: children's health and safety (including housing), wellness and nutrition (including hunger), and community programs.
- We support initiatives only in the communities in which we operate and where our employees live and work.
- We prefer programs that provide direct service to individuals and communities in need rather than event sponsorships.
- We prefer to make grants for specific projects with measurable results, rather than for general operating support.
- We require organizations that receive our contributions be able to demonstrate that they spend at least 75 percent of their annual budget on the programs and services they exist to support.
- We fund organizations with an IRS exempt status under section 501(c)(3) that are fiscally sound with strong management practices and accountability.
Since the Company receives funding requests far in excess of our annual giving program budget, we must often decline to support worthy organizations and programs. Such a response does not reflect in any way a negative appraisal of the prospective organization or the value of its services.
